Arshad Rather is a Consultant physician in Geriatric and General Medicine in University College Hospital. Arshad is part of Medelit’s healthcare team and carries out Elderly Medicine Home visit with us.

His postgraduate training was mainly in northwest London at Imperial college hospitals NHS trust. He is lead clinician for Acute Geriatrics at University College hospital. His specialist interests are in Parkinson’s disease, heart failure and frailty in older adults. He also takes a keen interest in managing falls, syncope, delirium, dementia, peri-operative care, bone health, stroke care, rehabilitation and chronic diseases like heart failure and hypertension. geriatrician london

3. Principal Investigator at University College London for ongoing FRAILsafe study. The FRAILsafe project is supported by a Health Foundation ‘Closing the Gap in Patient Safety’ award. FRAILsafe aims to improve measured quality of care for frail older patients admitted to NHS hospitals with medical emergencies by July 2016.
4 He was a collaborator a national survey of junior doctors’ understanding of delirium as a Hospital. The work will be collated with intended publication in “Age and Ageing”. It is a repeat of a previous study done 5 years ago in light of the NICE guidelines on delirium and increased prominence of delirium in education. It will be published soon under group authorship
5. He has also completed a 10,000 word original dissertation as a part of my Master’s degree in Health Care Management at University of Surrey Guildford. This was a retrospective study looking at the failure of Indian healthcare systems to achieve “Health for all by year 2000” pledged to United Nations

Undergraduate and Postgraduate Teaching

He provides teaching to junior and senior medical students attached to his team at regular bedside teaching sessions, during a weekly teaching Ward Round and in outpatient clinics.
He has been contributed to develop curriculum in geriatric medicine for undergraduate teaching. He delivers regular teaching sessions to medical students. He also takes part in weekly multidisciplinary teaching in elderly medicine department. He contributes to NE Thames regional SPR training days.  rather consultant geriatrician

He regularly delivers teaching sessions to the GP’s in North London. He is also closely involved with primary care neurology society delivering teaching to General practitioners on Parkinson’s disease at deanery level in association with royal college of GP’s. rather consultant geriatrician
