Catheter Care Our Nurse Provides at Home
A catheter is usually needed when the bladder cannot empty on its own: urine retention, a blocked urethra, incontinence that is damaging the skin, or limited mobility after surgery, ageing or a spinal injury. Our nurse looks after it at home.
Nurse Catheter Care at Home — Service Details
Your nurse wants you to be as independent as possible, with reassurance close by.
An Assessment First
Your first visit starts with a look at the bladder-care needs of you or your loved one.
A Rhythm That Suits You
For regular care your nurse can plan a schedule, or visits can be arranged one at a time at the times that suit you best.
Checked Each Visit
Your nurse makes sure the catheter is working properly and talks through any discomfort or leakage.
Trial Without Catheter (TWOC)
When your doctor wants to see whether you can manage without a catheter, the nurse removes it and comes back for a second visit to check you are passing urine. Because it takes two visits it is a longer service, and only some of our nurses offer it.
Advantages
- Catheter care in your own home
- Registered, discreet nurses
- Catheter changes and TWOC
- Training for you and carers
- Weekends and bank holidays

What Our Patients Say
Very good experience. From the process to an appointment till the visit of the doctor. Even the afterwork with a detailed report. Appointment on time, good treatment. For sure, the right adress for visit of a doctor at home.
The service is impeccable...i was provided with an acupuncturist covering my area immediately and the practitioner was very professional and gave a medical report after each session. Also an invoice was provided which was acceptable by my insurance AXA PPP...
Great service all around. It was easy to arrange the appointment and make payment. Nurse came to my home to administer an infusion. Very friendly and professional nurse who was a pleasure to have in my home.
A very professional medical group. Responded immediately to my mums caring needs. We were desperate for a home visit and they answered promptly and allocated a very thorough doctor for us. Doctor made mum very relaxed because mum is usually a very nervous patient. I will recommend others to use them. Very satisfied with their services. Way to go Medelit. Well done!
The speech therapist who visited me at home was very attentive, patience and positive. She had time to address all of my questions and give me much needed guidance. Very pleased with the service and would highly recommend. Thanks, From a pleased mother.
It depends on the procedure. Fitting or removing a catheter, a trial without catheter (TWOC) and intermittent self-catheterisation all need a doctor’s referral. A routine change of an existing catheter does not.
No. Our nurses do not change suprapubic catheters at home, so this needs to be arranged with your GP or hospital team.
It can be uncomfortable, so anaesthetic gel may be used to ease it. You may notice some discomfort at first while the catheter is in, but most people with a long-term catheter get used to it.
A catheter pulled out while its balloon is still inflated can block or stop working, and may injure the bladder or urethra and cause bleeding. Book a nurse to replace it and let your doctor know.
Your doctor decides when a Foley catheter is no longer needed, and it is always safer for a nurse to take it out. The nurse empties the balloon, then gently draws the catheter out as you breathe out.
