How It Works
Choose the service and the clinician
Each online page lists the English-speaking professionals available for video, with CV and exact fee. No address is asked — you can be anywhere.
Confirm the time, complete the consent
The clinician proposes a time; you pay at confirmation and are charged only after the consultation. A short consent form is completed before the first video call.
Join in your browser, receive the paperwork
Secure video from phone, tablet or computer. Afterwards: a written report in English, any prescription or certificate the clinician judges appropriate, and the invoice.
Video or Home Visit?
Medelit runs both, and the booking system offers both where they exist. The honest split:
Video is right when
You need advice, triage, a prescription decision, results explained, a certificate, therapy or counselling that works on screen, or you are outside home-visit coverage.
A home visit is right when
Someone has to examine you, treat you or take a sample: chest and abdomen examinations, wounds, injections, blood draws, manual therapy, scans.
Neither is right when
It is an emergency. Medelit is a scheduled service; in an emergency in Italy call 112 or go to the nearest A&E.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who are the online services for?
English speakers in Italy who need a clinician in their own language: tourists and short-stay visitors, expats and their families, international students, posted workers and digital nomads — and families abroad arranging care for someone in Italy.
Do I get a prescription after an online consultation?
Only if the doctor judges it clinically appropriate; it is never guaranteed before the consultation. When issued, it is a private Italian prescription as a PDF, valid in Italian pharmacies for non-controlled medicines. Some prescriptions must be paper originals and are posted at a small extra charge.
Which certificates can be issued by video?
Fit-to-fly, fit-to-work and private sick notes on Medelit headed paper, where clinically appropriate. Italian INPS sick certificates are not issued.
How do payment and cancellation work for video consultations?
You pay at booking confirmation and are charged only after the consultation. Video consultations cancelled or moved within 48 hours of the appointment are charged in full; earlier than that there is no charge.
Can I use the service from outside Italy?
Yes, for follow-ups after care received in Italy or a first orientation before you arrive. Documents issued are Italian and valid in Italy.
