A time usually within a day, notes sent ahead
The midwife proposes a slot, usually within a day. You pay at confirmation and are charged only after the consultation; before the first call you complete a short consent form and can send your scans and pregnancy notes in advance.

The first consultation answers what is worrying you now. Afterwards you can book a package of three, or the antenatal course, with the same midwife — one voice from pregnancy to the first months.

A midwife’s work is largely listening, explaining and showing, and most of it transfers to a screen. Examining you or your baby does not, and we say so.

Consultations last around 45 minutes; the antenatal course runs as four to five sessions of about two hours.
→When you need a visit
- Anything that needs examining — the bump, the baby’s weight, a perineal check — is for the home midwife where the service reaches you.
- Bleeding, reduced movements, severe pain or fever in pregnancy belong in the maternity unit, not on a video call; the midwife will tell you so at once.
- Labour and birth: our midwives do not attend births, in person or on video. The course prepares you for the hospital or clinic you have chosen.
What to send beforehand
Your pregnancy notes or diary, scans and blood tests, any gynaecology or obstetric report; for breastfeeding, the baby’s weight record. Everything is handled encrypted and read before the call.
Partners welcome
Join from the same sofa or a second device in another country. The antenatal course is built for two, and a partner who understands the Italian delivery room is worth having in it.

Can I do the whole antenatal course online, in English?
Yes. The course is private, by video, in four to five sessions of about two hours, with your partner: how labour unfolds, pain relief options in Italian hospitals, induction, caesarean, the first hours with the baby, breastfeeding and the early weeks at home. It is adapted to the hospital you have chosen and scheduled around your work.
What does giving birth in Italy actually look like?
Public maternity care runs through the local consultorio and the ASL, you choose the hospital yourself, and the birth plan is a conversation rather than a form. The midwife walks you through the appointments, the exams expected at each stage, what to pack, and how the delivery room works in Italy — in English, before the day.
Can a midwife really help with breastfeeding on video?
More than most people expect: the latch and positions can be checked on camera, supply and pain worked through, engorgement and the warning signs of mastitis explained. When the baby needs weighing or hands-on help, the midwife says so and, where the home service reaches you, comes to you.
I am not in Italy yet — can I consult before I arrive?
Yes. Many families book a first orientation from their home country: what to expect from Italian maternity care, which documents to bring, how to choose a hospital. The platform works from any country.
How quickly can I speak to a midwife?
After you book, the midwife proposes a time, usually within a day, seven days a week including holidays.
Do your midwives attend the birth?
No. Births take place in the hospital or clinic you choose; our midwives prepare you for it, answer questions during pregnancy, and support you and the baby afterwards, by video and at home where the service reaches you.
Can my partner take part?
Yes, and we recommend it, especially for the course. Partners can join from the same room or from another country on a second device.
What should I send before the consultation?
Your pregnancy notes, scans and blood tests, any obstetric or gynaecology report, and for breastfeeding questions the baby’s weight record. Send them in advance, as the booking confirmation explains; the midwife reads them before the call.
Can a midwife prescribe medicines or write certificates by video?
For medicines and certificates you need a doctor: an English-speaking GP or gynaecologist is available by video within the same service, and whether to prescribe remains entirely their clinical decision. The midwife tells you when that step is needed.
How much does an online midwife cost?
A midwife video consultation starts from € 55; each midwife’s exact fee, including the package of three and the antenatal course, is visible before you book. Payment is taken at confirmation and charged after the consultation; a video consultation cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice is charged in full.
