How It Works
Choose the specialty, then the specialist
Press Choose & Book and pick the field. The booking page lists the English-speaking specialists available by video in it, with CV, reviews and exact fee. Choose one and book — no address is asked.
A time within a day or two, reports sent ahead
The specialist proposes a slot, within one or two days at most. Upload your Italian reports, scans and results in advance, as the booking confirmation explains; you pay at confirmation, are charged only after the consultation, and complete a short consent form before the first call.
The consultation, then the paperwork
Around half an hour on video in your browser. Afterwards: a written report in English, a prescription where the specialist judges it appropriate, and the invoice. Follow-ups with the same specialist are offered at a reduced fee.

→When you need a visit
- Anything that needs examining — a joint, a wound, an abdomen, a neurological exam — is for a specialist home visit in the cities we cover, or a clinic.
- Tests and imaging: the specialist advises which are needed and requests private ones; blood tests, ECGs and ultrasound can be done at your address where the diagnostics service reaches you.
- A specialty you do not see above: ask us. We will say honestly whether an English-speaking specialist is available by video, and offer a home visit or the online doctor instead.
Prescriptions, at the specialist’s discretion
Whether to prescribe is decided during the consultation and is never promised beforehand. When issued, it is a private Italian prescription as a PDF, valid in Italian pharmacies for non-controlled medicines; no public-system prescriptions, no controlled substances. Medicines that need a paper original are posted, with extra days and a small charge of usually € 10 to 15 set by the doctor.
Certificates
Where clinically appropriate, a specialist can issue a certificate or medical letter on Medelit headed paper for a foreign employer, insurer or hospital. Italian INPS sick certificates cannot be issued.
What to send beforehand
Specialist letters, discharge summaries, scans with their reports, recent blood tests, your current medication list and, for chronic conditions, your own records — glucose readings, INR values, blood pressure. All handled encrypted and read before the call.
From abroad too
A follow-up on a condition diagnosed in Italy, or a second opinion before you travel for treatment, can take place from any country. The specialist is Italian-registered; the report is in English.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is an online specialist different from the online doctor?
The online doctor is a GP: first contact, acute illness, prescriptions, the decision about what comes next. A specialist consultation goes deeper into one field — endocrinology, neurology, oncology — and suits second opinions, chronic conditions and results that need an expert reading. If in doubt, the GP is the cheaper first step and will point you on.
Do I need a referral to see a specialist?
No. You book directly, without an Italian GP’s request, a health card or a referral letter.
Can I send my Italian reports before the consultation?
Yes, and you should: the booking confirmation explains how to send letters, scans, blood tests and medication lists in advance, handled encrypted. The specialist reads them before the call, so the time on video is spent on answers rather than on reading.
Can I get a second opinion on a diagnosis or treatment plan made in Italy?
Yes. Send the reports, the imaging and the proposed plan; the specialist reviews them and tells you, in English, whether they agree, what the alternatives are and what questions to take back to the treating team.
How does remote INR monitoring for anticoagulants work?
If you take warfarin or a similar anticoagulant, the specialist manages your INR values remotely: you send each reading, receive the dose adjustment and the date of the next test, by video or telephone, with a package covering eight checks. Useful when a long stay in Italy interrupts monitoring at home.
Can the specialist prescribe medicines?
Where they judge it clinically appropriate, yes: a private Italian prescription as a PDF, valid in Italian pharmacies for non-controlled medicines. It is never guaranteed before the consultation, and public-system or controlled-substance prescriptions cannot be issued. Some medicines require a paper original, which is posted for a small extra charge.
Can the specialist order tests or imaging?
The specialist tells you which tests are worth doing and can request private ones. Public-system (SSN) requests cannot be issued. Blood tests, ECGs and some ultrasound scans can be carried out at your address through our diagnostics service where it reaches you.

Yes. Follow-ups on a condition diagnosed in Italy, or a second opinion before travelling for treatment, take place from any country. Reports are in English; prescriptions remain Italian documents, valid in Italy.

The fee is taken at confirmation and charged only after the consultation; cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice are charged in full.
