Online Psychologist in English — Video Consultations for Italy
Therapy only works in the language you think in. Talk to an English-speaking psychologist by video from wherever you are in Italy — a flat in Milan, a campus in Bologna, a posting in Rome — without having to walk into an Italian clinic first.
Fees shown before you book. No referral, no account needed.

How It Works
Choose your psychologist, no address needed
Press Choose & Book: you go straight to the booking page listing the English-speaking psychologists available by video, each with CV, approach and exact fee. Pick the one you feel you could talk to and book — from any corner of Italy, or from abroad.
Agree a time that suits you
The psychologist proposes a slot, within a day or two at most; evenings and weekends are possible. You pay at confirmation and are charged only after the session; a short consent form is completed before the first video call.
Meet on video, then continue at your pace
Join from your phone, tablet or laptop in the browser. After the first consultation you agree the path together: how often to meet, which approach, and whether a discounted package makes sense for you.
No referral is needed, and nothing goes to an Italian GP, employer or university: what you say stays between you and your psychologist.

What Works on Video — and When You Need Something Else
Online therapy is real therapy: the same assessment, the same goals, the same regular sessions and reviews as in a consulting room. It also has limits, and you should know them before you book.
✓Works well on video
- Counselling and psychotherapy — individual sessions, short-term or ongoing
- CBT and EMDR — structured work on thoughts, habits, trauma and post-traumatic stress
- Anxiety, panic and sleep — worry that will not switch off, nights that will not settle
- Low mood — loss of energy and interest, especially far from home
- Adjustment after a move — isolation, culture shock, a life that followed someone else’s job
- Relationships, grief, self-esteem — couples strain, families split by distance, losses carried alone
- Stress at work or in exams — students, posted workers, burnout
For adults and older adolescents who can talk comfortably on screen.
→When you need something else
- A crisis. If you, or someone near you, are at immediate risk, seek urgent help in person first; sessions can begin once you are safe.
- Younger children, and assessments that need testing materials in the room, are better served by home-visiting psychologists.
- Medication or a medical diagnosis. If medication may help, or a diagnosis needs a medical opinion, an English-speaking psychiatrist is available by video within the same service and can work alongside your psychologist. Ask us when you book.
Psychologists do not prescribe
In Italy a psychologist cannot issue prescriptions or medical certificates. Where medication is part of the answer, the video psychiatrist assesses you and decides, at their sole clinical discretion, whether to prescribe — never a promise made in advance.
Privacy, honestly
Sessions run on a secure browser platform. Every report or note you exchange with your psychologist is stored encrypted, and nothing is passed to anyone you have not authorised — the only paperwork that leaves is the invoice you choose to send an insurer.
From abroad too
Started therapy in Italy and moving on? Sessions continue from any country with the same psychologist, so a relocation does not have to mean starting over with someone new.
Why an Online Psychologist Through Medelit
In your own language, at last
Therapy in a second language keeps part of you outside the room. Every psychologist here works in English, and several have lived abroad themselves.
Continuity when you move
Milan this year, Rome the next, home eventually: the same psychologist follows you by video wherever the contract, the course or the visa takes you.
Selected, not listed
Each psychologist is registered with the Italian Order of Psychologists, insured, reference-checked and interviewed by our medical direction, with specific experience of working online.
Around your hours, and your time zone
Evening and weekend sessions are possible, and you request the time yourself — useful when your working day runs on London or New York time.
A clinical service, not an app
Behind the video platform there is a medical direction, a booking team you can email in English, and home-visiting psychologists and psychiatrists if the path ever needs them.
Invoices your insurer or employer accepts
Every session comes with a regular healthcare invoice; many international policies and employee assistance schemes reimburse psychotherapy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is online therapy as effective as seeing a psychologist in person?
For counselling, psychotherapy, CBT and EMDR the evidence for video sessions is well established, and for some people the privacy of their own room makes it easier to open up, particularly at the start. The path — assessment, goals, regular sessions, review — is the same as in a consulting room.
I have just moved to Italy and feel isolated — is that a reason to see a psychologist?
Yes, and a common one. Losing your network, a partner’s career driving the move, a job that exists only on a screen, a city where you cannot yet read the room: adjustment is real clinical territory, and it responds well to a few structured sessions.
How long is a session, and how often do we meet?
Around 60 minutes. Frequency is agreed with your psychologist after the first consultation: weekly is usual at the start, then spaced out as things improve.
What happens in the first consultation?
The psychologist listens to what brought you here, asks about your situation in Italy and your history, and proposes a way of working — approach, frequency and whether a package makes sense. You decide together whether to continue.
Can I continue therapy I started in my home country?
Yes. If your previous therapist wrote a summary, send it in advance in advance, as the booking confirmation explains; the psychologist picks up the thread instead of starting from zero.
Do I need a referral or an Italian health card?
No. Neither a referral nor a tessera sanitaria is required: you book directly and the psychologist works privately, in English.
Can an online psychologist prescribe medication or sign a certificate?
No. In Italy psychologists neither prescribe nor issue medical certificates. If medication may help, an English-speaking psychiatrist is available by video and can assess you; whether to prescribe remains entirely their clinical decision during the consultation.
Which approaches are available?
Counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), EMDR for trauma and post-traumatic stress, psychodynamic work and mindfulness-based techniques. Each psychologist’s CV shows their orientation before you choose.
Can I have sessions from outside Italy?
Yes. The platform works from any country, and clients who leave Italy often keep their psychologist. The professional is registered in Italy, so the paperwork is an Italian healthcare invoice.
How much does an online psychologist cost?
A first video consultation starts from € 122; the exact fee of each psychologist is visible before you book, and discounted packages are offered after the first session. You pay at confirmation and are charged only once the session has taken place; a video session cancelled less than 48 hours ahead is charged in full.
