What is Speech Therapy:

Speech and language therapy provides life-changing treatment, support and care for children and adults who have difficulties with speech and communication, or with eating, drinking and swallowing.

Speech and language therapists (SLTs) are allied health professionals. They usually work within a multidisciplinary team and with those close to the patients, such as family members, carers and other professionals, such as teachers.

Children’s speech and language development follows a typical pattern. Typical children speech disorders include conditions such as dysarthria, articulation and phonological disorders, stuttering, selective mutism, autism, cleft lip palate.

Adults may experience speech and language difficulties for a variety of reasons. Speech and language differences and disorders in adults can be associated to conditions such as dementia, stroke, oral cancer or traumatic brain damage.
