Paediatrician home visits in Italy with English speaking doctors

How It Works

1

Enter where your child is

Under Choose & Book, give the address — home, hotel or rental. The paediatricians who cover it appear with their hospital background and fee.

2

Pick the paediatrician and a time

Read the profiles, choose the doctor you want for your child, and take a slot from their live diary. The booking is confirmed on screen, with no phone call to wait for.

3

The visit, at the child’s pace

The paediatrician examines your child where they feel safe, explains what they found and what to do, and leaves you a report in English plus a prescription if one is needed.

Coverage follows the paediatricians on the roster, city by city; the address check shows who reaches you today, and when no home visit is possible the online paediatrician is the same team on video.

Paediatric Care at Your Address

What a Medelit paediatrician does at home, from the acute visit to the routine check.

A paediatric consultation at home starts from € 220 with the paediatricians currently on the English-speaking roster; the exact fee for your address is shown before you confirm.

When a Home Visit Is Right — and When It Is Not

Most childhood illness is frightening for parents and manageable for a paediatrician at the bedside. A small number of situations are not, and a good paediatric service says which is which before you book.

Book the paediatrician at home

  • Fever in a child who is drinking and responsive, with or without a cough or a sore throat
  • Ear pain, red eyes, swollen glands, a chesty cold that will not lift
  • Vomiting and diarrhoea where the child is still taking fluids
  • Rashes, insect bites, mild allergic reactions, skin infections
  • Newborn questions: feeding, weight, colic, jaundice that appeared after discharge
  • Growth checks, certificates and vaccinations that would otherwise mean a clinic queue

Go straight to a paediatric hospital

  • Breathing difficulty, blue lips, a child too breathless to speak or feed.
  • A fever in a baby under three months, a non-blanching rash, a stiff neck, a fit, or a child who is unusually drowsy and hard to rouse.
  • Serious injury, swallowed objects or chemicals, a severe allergic reaction. Italy’s children’s hospitals have dedicated paediatric emergency departments; a home visit is the wrong tool for these.

Have to hand

Your child’s vaccination record, any recent reports or hospital letters, the medicines they take, and a note of temperatures and symptoms since it started.

Not sure which?

A video consultation with a paediatrician can triage: what can wait for a home visit, what should go to hospital now.

Afterwards

A written report in English, a prescription any Italian pharmacy will fill, and an invoice your insurer accepts.

Why Book Through Medelit

Medelit’s paediatricians are hospital doctors: specialists in paediatrics, registered with the Italian medical council, insured, and admitted to the roster only after our medical directors have verified their qualifications, checked their references and interviewed them in English. Parents get a consultant at the bedside, not a generalist reading a checklist.

No waiting room full of other coughs

A sick child stays in their own bed; the doctor comes to them. No crowded surgery, no taxi across a strange city.

The paediatrician your child gets used to

Book the same doctor for follow-ups and checks; a familiar face makes the examination easier for a toddler and the history easier for the doctor.

Time to answer every question

Visits are not timed. The paediatrician stays until the parents understand what is happening and what to watch for.

A children’s team behind the paediatrician

Paediatric osteopaths, speech therapists, midwives and child psychologists are booked the same way when the paediatrician recommends them.

A door into Italian children’s hospitals

When a child needs tests or admission, the paediatrician refers directly to the right unit and explains the Italian system to parents who have never used it.

Paperwork that works abroad

Reports and vaccination entries in English, certificates for international schools, invoices for family and travel insurers.

A consultation at home starts from € 220; well-child visits and follow-ups are priced separately and usually lower. Each paediatrician sets their own fee, shown next to their profile before you book, with no surcharge for evenings, weekends or holidays.

You book straight into the doctor’s live diary, so the earliest slot you see is the earliest you can have; nobody calls you back to arrange it. If nothing suits, a video consultation with a paediatrician is the fastest alternative while you wait.

From newborns to teenagers. The same paediatricians do the first check after a birth abroad, the feverish toddler and the sixteen-year-old with a sports injury; for adults in the family, book a GP.

Yes, and holiday families are a large part of our work. A hotel or a rental is a normal address; you need no Italian health card or paperwork, and you receive a report and an invoice in English for your travel insurer.

Yes, against a prescription: routine childhood vaccines and travel vaccines can be administered at home, and the entry is written in your child’s record in a form Italian schools and foreign paediatricians both accept.

Yes. The newborn visit after discharge, weight and feeding checks, developmental milestones and the periodic growth assessments are all done at home, with the same paediatrician if you wish.

Yes. Certificates of good health for school enrolment and the non-competitive sports certificate can be issued at a home visit, in Italian for the institution and explained to you in English.

The paediatrician refers directly to the right children’s hospital or unit, tells you what to expect and can speak to the admitting team. Paediatric osteopathy, speech therapy and child psychology are booked at home through the same system.

Yes. When you rebook, choose the same doctor from the list; families who settle in Italy often keep one Medelit paediatrician for years, with others on the roster covering when that doctor is away.

Every visit is invoiced and reported in English. International family policies and travel insurance generally reimburse a private paediatric home visit; some insurers are billed directly — ask before booking if you need that.

Yes. The online paediatrician page offers video consultations with the same team, for advice, follow-up, or when you are somewhere in Italy that no home visit reaches that day.

Wherever a paediatrician on the roster covers the address, in Italy’s main cities and around them. Enter your address under Choose & Book to see who visits it; for Milan, there is a dedicated paediatricians in Milan page.

With Medelit, you can check availability and fees at your address directly on our website. Simply enter your address, choose your preferred clinician based on their profile, qualifications and fees, and book online. No membership required. Same-day and next-day appointments are often available.

Fees vary by clinician and specialisation. With Medelit, each clinician sets their own fees, which are fully transparent when you check availability — so you can choose based on both expertise and cost. There are no hidden fees or membership charges.

A home visit is ideal when you have mobility issues, are caring for a child or a relative, are too unwell to travel, need attention outside surgery hours, are travelling or new to Italy, or simply prefer the privacy and comfort of home or your hotel.

Every Medelit clinician is fully registered with the relevant Italian professional body, holds professional indemnity insurance, and has been individually vetted through background checks, reference verification, and interviews with our medical directors. All speak English.

Absolutely. When you check availability, you can view each clinician's profile, qualifications, specialisations and fees. For follow-ups, you can request the same clinician for continuity of care.

Medelit often has same-day availability. In many cases, a clinician can visit within a few hours. Weekend and bank holiday appointments are also available. For medical emergencies, always call 112.

Medelit is available in Italy’s major cities and many surrounding areas. Enter your address to check availability where you are staying.

Yes. Medelit clinicians visit wherever you need them — your home, hotel room, office or workplace. This is particularly valued by travellers, expats and companies requiring on-site services.

You receive a comprehensive report in English. Your Medelit clinician can coordinate follow-up care, referrals, and any additional services needed — all organised through Medelit.

No referral is needed. You can book directly with any Medelit clinician. If you have a letter from your own doctor, our practitioners are happy to take it into account.
