Choose the paediatrician, or a GP who sees children
Press Choose & Book: you go straight to the booking page listing the English-speaking paediatricians available by video, and the GPs who also see children, each with CV, background and exact fee. Book from wherever the family is staying.
A time within a day or two, photos sent ahead
The paediatrician proposes a slot, within one or two days at most. Upload a photo of the rash, the fever diary, the medication list or a growth chart in advance, as the booking confirmation explains; you pay at confirmation, are charged only after the consultation, and complete a short consent form first.
The consultation, with your child in view
The paediatrician talks to you and watches the child — breathing, colour, behaviour, the rash on camera. Afterwards: a written report in English, a prescription where clinically appropriate, and the invoice. Follow-ups are offered at a reduced fee.
Video paediatrics is triage and advice: the doctor tells you whether this can be managed where you are, needs a visit, or needs the hospital — and says so plainly. A paediatrician proposes a time within a day or two; a GP usually within hours.

What Works on Video — and When Your Child Needs to Be Seen
Most paediatric worries are questions of judgement: is this normal, what do I give, do we need to go in. A paediatrician can answer those on a screen with the child in view. Listening to a chest or looking into an ear cannot happen through it.

→When your child needs to be seen
- Straight to the paediatric emergency department (pronto soccorso pediatrico): a baby under three months with a fever, breathing difficulty, a drowsy or floppy child, signs of dehydration, a rash that does not fade under a glass. The paediatrician will tell you so at once.
- Ears, chests and tummies need examining: in the cities we cover, an English-speaking paediatric home visit follows the video call; elsewhere, a local clinic.
- Newborn checks, vaccinations and growth measurements are done in person.
Prescriptions for children, honestly
Whether to prescribe — an antibiotic included — is the paediatrician’s clinical decision during the consultation and is never promised beforehand. When issued, it is a private Italian prescription as a PDF with the dose for your child’s weight, valid in Italian pharmacies for non-controlled medicines; medicines that need a paper original are posted, with a small charge of usually € 10 to 15 set by the doctor.
Certificates for school, sport and travel
Absence notes for an international school, fit-to-travel and non-competitive sports certificates can be issued on Medelit headed paper where clinically appropriate. Italian INPS certificates and public-system paperwork cannot.
What to send beforehand
Photos of any rash or swelling, a note of temperatures and times, the medicines already given, the child’s weight, previous reports and the vaccination record. Handled encrypted and read before the call.
From abroad too
A follow-up on an illness treated in Italy, or a question after you have flown home, can take place from any country. Prescriptions remain Italian documents, valid in Italy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a paediatrician really assess my child by video?
For the common illnesses of childhood, largely yes: a paediatrician learns a great deal from how a child looks, breathes, moves and interacts on camera, plus your account and a photo of any rash. What cannot be done is examining ears, chest or tummy — the paediatrician says when that is needed and where to get it.
When should we go straight to the hospital instead of booking?
A baby under three months with a fever, any difficulty breathing, a child who is unusually drowsy or floppy, signs of dehydration, a rash that does not fade when pressed with a glass, or a parent’s strong instinct that something is wrong: these go to the paediatric emergency department (pronto soccorso pediatrico) without waiting for a video slot.
My child has a fever on holiday — what do I do while I wait for the consultation?
Keep the child drinking, dress them lightly, note the temperatures and the times you gave any medicine, and photograph any rash in daylight. Bring the medicine boxes to the call: the paediatrician checks names and doses against the child’s weight.
Can the paediatrician prescribe antibiotics or other medicines for children?
Where clinically appropriate, yes, as a private Italian prescription in PDF form with the dose for your child’s weight, accepted by Italian pharmacies for non-controlled medicines. Prescribing is never promised before the consultation; it depends on what the paediatrician sees and hears. Some medicines require a paper original, which is posted for a small charge.
Does my child need to be on camera?
Yes, at least for part of the call: seeing the child is most of the assessment. Babies on a lap, toddlers playing in the background, teenagers speaking for themselves — the paediatrician adapts, and will say if a part of the conversation is better held with parents only.
Can you explain Italian medicine names and doses?
Yes. Italian brand names, syrups sold in different strengths, drops and suppositories confuse most foreign parents; the paediatrician tells you what each box is, the right dose for your child’s weight, how often, and which not to combine.
Can I get a school absence note or a fit-to-travel certificate for my child?
Where clinically appropriate, yes: absence certificates for international schools, fit-to-travel letters and non-competitive sports certificates are issued on Medelit headed paper. Italian public-system certificates cannot be issued by video.
How quickly can we speak to a paediatrician, and is it every day?
Requests are accepted seven days a week. A paediatrician proposes a time within a day or two, depending on their diary; many of our GPs also see children and are listed on the same booking page, usually with a time within hours. For anything that cannot wait, a paediatric home visit can be arranged in the cities we cover.
